Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay? CD Projekt 'scared' of missing April launch

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt has admitted that it’s under pressure to meet the tight deadline for launch.

Cyberpunk 2077 has an April 16 release date for PS4, Xbox One, PC and even Google Stadia.

But based on an interview with Gamespot, CD Projekt’s John Mamais said that meeting the April 2020 release date is going to be tough.

“Everyone is working really hard right now because it’s a tight deadline for us; the game is really big and large-scope,” Mamais explained. “We’re pushing it to the wall.

“I guess the vibe in the office is there’s always a level of excitement there based on results that we get from going to conferences like this [PAX Australia] and seeing people really excited about the game.

“So that keeps the hype up but it also puts some pressure on, so that’s kind of the vibe. You’re in a vice, in a way, which takes its toll on the team but there is… a healthy, extrinsic kind of pressure to make [the team] really excel.”

More worrying is that Mamais admits that some members of the development team are scared of the April launch.

However, despite the concerns, Mamais said that the studio has a directive and will stick to that date.

“A lot of people do [feel good about the April 2020 date and] some people are scared about the date,” Mamais continues.

“It’s a normal kind of mixture of feeling about that date in the studio. That’s the directive; we need to keep that date.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is unsurprisingly one of this console generation’s most anticipated games.

Based on footage shown so far, the action role-playing release could be one of the all time greats.

So impressive was the first gameplay demo that people were convinced it would be a next-gen release for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

Cyberpunk 2077’s April 16 release date was officially revealed during the Xbox E3 conference.

In a bizarre move, the release date was revealed by Keanu Reeves, who will play a character in the game.

Elsewhere, the game is said to have a deep relationship system for making friends and taking partners.

The skill system, meanwhile, has been described as huge. Players will reportedly gain progression points for learning new skills and boosting attributes.

Levelling up certain attributes lets you install specific chips, although players can also improve skills by performing actions more often.

Using one weapon, for example, improves your ability with it. The same is also said to be true for melee and hacking.

Street Cred – which is gained by completing tasks – gives players access to dangerous missions with greater rewards. Speaking of missions, side quests can influence the game’s story and ending.
