Arsenal may raid Olympiakos for Daniel Podence with Gunners scouts active in Greece

Arsenal are said to be keeping tabs on Olympiakos star Daniel Podence following his impressive display against rivals Tottenham in the Champions League.

According to Greek outlet Sportime, a number of Premier League scouts watched Podence in action and many more were filled in about his stunning performance against Spurs during the Greek giants’ Champions League opener at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.

It has been reported that two English teams are now targeting the Portugal international and it is suggested one of them could be Arsenal, who have a lot of representatives in Greece keeping an eye on possible talent at Olympiakos and other Greek clubs.

Podence was key in his team’s incredible comeback against Tottenham, which came after they went two goals following Harry Kane’s penalty and Lucas Moura’s stunner.

The winger fired one back in just before half-time following an incredible run from the right wing and brought the capacity crowd on their feet in Piraeus.

Podence then caused a lot of problems for Ben Davies and the rest of Mauricio Pochettino’s defence until Mathieu Valbuena equalised from the penalty spot.

Reports suggest that the plan is to sell the 23-year-old to a Premier League team in the near future.

However, Olympiakos won’t agree to sell for anything less than £22million (€25m) and are confident their asking price will be met with the help of the player’s famous agent Jorge Mendes, who has a strong rapport with the team’s owner Evangelos Marinakis.

It has also been suggested that the 44-time Greek champions have already been contacted by Premier League teams.

If Arsenal are indeed eyeing Podence then they may face some competition as Spanish teams are also keeping tabs on the Portuguese ace, one of them is said to be Sevilla.

Meanwhile, the former Sporting Lisbon star, who recently earned his first international call-up by Portugal manager Fernando Santos, remains focused on Olympiakos’ targets in Greece and Europe.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on various players in Greece throughout the years and signed Dinos Mavropanos from Pas Giannina last year.

The Gunners also have history with Olympiakos on the pitch as they have faced them eight times in the Champions League.

The London side has won four matches and lost the other half to the Greeks.
