‘Rashford might have a little tweak in his hammy’ – Liverpool hero jokes about Man Utd ace

Marcus Rashford suffering an injury would be the worst possible thing for Manchester United heading into this weekend’s match against Liverpool, claims Reds legend Steve Nicol.

United could be without No 1 goalkeeper David de Gea for the visit of Liverpool.

That is because the Spain star suffered a leg injury in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Sweden on Tuesday.

De Gea had to be substituted in the second half and was replaced by Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Following the news about De Gea, ESPN FC pundit Nicol was asked what more could go worse for United.

And he said an injury to striker Rashford would be another major problem.

And while he said it, the former Liverpool full-back was laughing and rubbing his hands together.

“Rashford might have a little tweak in his hammy [hamstring], that could go wrong,” Nicol said.

“Nothing at the back, nothing at the front and actually they’ve got nothing in the middle anyway.”

Spain manager Robert Moreno revealed De Gea suffered the injury in the first half against Sweden and received treatment at half time.

However, Moreno says De Gea just could not carry on for the entire 90 minutes.

“David made a great save at the first half and it is wonderful have three great goalkeepers,” he said.

“He suffers pain in his abductor muscle but he received treatment at half time and he wanted to keep playing.

“He gave us his word but at the end, he couldn’t continue.”

Meanwhile, United midfielder Juan Mata is determined his side put in a strong performance against Liverpool following the club’s worst start to the season for 30 years.

“We have a great chance to change the dynamic and we are all very motivated to take the win,” wrote Mata on his blog.

“We are United, we are playing at home and we will give everything to be able to take the victory that our fans deserve.”
