Man Utd contract details for Juventus star Mario Mandzukic emerge ahead of January window

Express Sport understands Manchester United have a verbal agreement with Juventus star Mario Mandzukic for the January transfer window.

And Goal have now lifted the lid on the deal, revealing the contract the Croatia international is expected to be given over at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have decided to sign the 33-year-old when the transfer window reopens amid the struggles of Marcus Rashford this term.

And the report claims he’s expected to sign an 18-month contract until the summer of 2021 when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

It is claimed he would earn a salary of £4.4million a year during his time at the club.

Rashford’s dire form in the No 9 role has prompted United into signing a forward, with three goals a poor return.

Two of those have been scored via the penalty spot and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer feels an experienced head is the way to go.

United have done well when it comes to signing veteran strikers in the past.

Henrik Larsson signed a three-month loan deal at the club back in January 2007.

And he was so impressive for United that Sir Alex Ferguson personally went out of the way to ensure he receive a Premier League winners medal at the end of that season.

United then moved to land Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer when Jose Mourinho took charge in 2016.

And the Sweden international, like Larsson nine years previously, was a good recruit for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, former United star Dimitar Berbatov feels Mandzukic can be a huge asset for the club.

And the former Bulgaria international also believes the Juventus star can help the likes of Rashford and Anthony Martial.

“When you sell two of your main strikers you need to bring in at least one, just in case,” he wrote in his column for Betfair.

“Everybody can see that that Manchester United need a back up, Anthony Martial is injured and there isn’t another really strong, proven goalscorer.

“They have the talent in the young players but at the same time, you need someone like Mario Mandzukic.

“I think he is a really good football player and he hasn’t played before in England but I hope, if he comes, he can straight away get into the rhythm of the Premier League.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic was 34 when he signed for United and he didn’t have any problems. Mandzukic is a similar age and hopefully he could have the same impact if he signs.

“I think his age is a good thing; Martial, Rashford and Greenwood are all young players so they need that time and assurance that they don’t need to worry and they can learn from the experience of Mandzukic.”
