Dianne Buswell: ‘We did what they said!’ Strictly star hits back in emotional admission

Dianne Buswell, 30, sat alongside Dev Griffin, 34, on the Strictly Come Dancing spin-off show It Takes Two today, with host Rylan Clark-Neal, 30. The Australian beauty appeared visibly emotional on the BBC programme where she admitted she was “shocked” about the dancing duo’s elimination. The professional dancer revealed her celebrity dance partner Dev, did what exactly what was asked of him from the judging panel. Speaking on It Takes Two, host Rylan quizzed them both on the “pep-talk” they gave each other once they were aware they were in the bottom two.

Dianne said: “I mean the [judges] gave us great comments. They said the dance was great they just wanted him to be a little bit more cheeky in that Cha Cha.

“And I feel Dev went out there and did exactly what they said. And we just approached it that way.”

The red-haired dancer revealed she was surprised the pair had exited the competition so early in the show.

“I was also in a lot of shock, I didn’t think Dev would be in the bottom two for a while, if not at all. I thought he did a brilliant job on Saturday night and even better in the dance-off so I was so upset,” she explained.

“I feel like I promised Dev that we were going to be fine and then we weren’t. But we sort of picked ourselves up and we thought we could be safe here.”

Dianne added: “I’m just really, really sad it’s come to an end.”

Dev also opened up about what he will miss most about being in the competition.

“Every single week is so different, I don’t think you can take your position from the week before It’s one of the things I will miss the most, learning a new dance, getting to hang out with Dianne in training. I had breakfast today with Alex and Michelle and I was quite jealous when they were going off for training,” he said.

The pair formed a close friendship during their time on the show and were planning on going for dinner after the interview.

Dianne is also planning on continuing to teach Dev to dance.

“I said if he still wants to dance we can go into a studio and learn how to dance, I don’t mind,” she said.

The dancing duo were in a dance-off with with Aljaz Skorjanec and Viscountess Emma Weymouth – who all four judges voted to save.

Head judge Shirley Ballas, 59, has defended the panel’s decision to eliminate Dev.

Speaking on Loose Women today, she said: “People have got to get out there and vote. we do our job. As you can see there were many people saved with lot lower scores.

“It’s just so important…I respect everybody at home who’s been watching fifteen series. Everyone has a favourite. We do our job to the best we can.

“We have to do it right there in that split second on the one minute 20 seconds. We have to make a decision.

“The three judges were unanimous. It wasn’t down to me. It was unanimous and I agreed.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
