Helen Skelton: ‘Really unfortunate’ Countryfile star yet to retrieve money after £70k scam

Last month, Helen Skelton, 36, revealed £70,000 was taken out of her savings account as part of a scam.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the Countryfile star she said the bank are still working on the case and are yet to find the culprit.

She said: “I’m working with the banks and I’m pretty sure I’m going to get my money back, yeah.

“It was really unfortunate. I got completely caught out.

“I was angry about it because I didn’t realise how often it happened and how many people it’s happened to.

“I’ve been totally overwhelmed with the amount of people and how it’s happened to them; everyone has got a scam story.”

Last month, Helen told Lorraine Kelly, 59, she received a phone call from the bank telling her “something dodgy” had gone on with her account.

She then she answered a few questions over the phone and realised her savings had disappeared the week after.

Helen said she had no suspicions about the hoax as “you don’t question your bank”.

The mother-of-two spoke out about her ordeal in a bid to stop others be scammed.

“It happens every day of the week and to everyone,” she added. “We are not talking about little old ladies who are victims and don’t understand the internet.”

Elsewhere, Helen Skelton recalled a disastrous moment which happened to her on Countryfile while she was pregnant.

The presenter revealed she had to be rescued by three men after getting stuck in a drysuit during filming.

She said: “I think the worst thing was when I was about seven months pregnant… I was stuck in a dry suit.

“The more you’re in it the more you panic. I put this dry suit on while helping fish in a canal and I just couldn’t get out of it.”

On how she got out of the situation, she added: “It took three blokes to help me get out of it!”

Thankfully for Helen, the nightmare moment didn’t feature on the show.

Helen has been presenting Countryfile alongside the likes of Matt Baker, 41, for over 10 years.

And with no intention to leave anytime soon, she added: “I love working on Countryfile because you get to go to all different parts of the country, you talk to the most passionate people.

“The nice thing about it is you’re always somewhere different and because it’s seasonal, even if you go back to the same place, the people can be completely different.

“I’ve been a part of it for a decade. It’s a family.”
