Daniil Medvedev is a worry for Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer – Cavaday

Daniil Medvedev is going from strength to strength and his form should be a worry of the top ATP stars.

That is the view of former British player Naomi Cavaday.

Medvedev maintained his stunning run of performances in Shanghai this week by capturing his second Masters 1000 title of year with victory over Alexander Zverev.

The Russian was imperious through his five matches in China and in the final, he was too good and too consistent for Zverev.

It was Medvedev’s sixth consecutive final and he has now won back-to-back titles for the first time in his career.

He is now set to play back in his homeland at the Kremlin Cup before the final Masters event in Paris and the season-ending ATP Finals.

And Cavaday, who commentated on the final, has backed Medvedev to continue this level until the end of the year.

“Extraordinary. Absolutely extraordinary,” Cavaday said.

“He just keeps on going and getting stronger and stronger. He’s an even better player now than he was a few months ago which is worrying for the rest of the players.

“No one really seems to have been able to crack the problem that is Daniil Medvedev, particularly in the past few months.

“He is just absolutely on a roll. He will keep rolling until the end of the season, I’m sure of it.

“What a season it has been. Absolutely outstanding.”

Speaking after the final, Medvedev called his own displays “outrageous” but warned he was not ready to stop.

Medvedev told the ATP: “Everybody is talking that they need new guys, something new, so I gave them something new. I don’t celebrate my wins, I just stay calm and do my job. Done.

“It’s something outrageous that I’ve done in the last few months. I have been working for it. I just take it and I hope I’m going to do much more.”
