Breaking Bad: Was the Kandy Welding Co in Breaking Bad? Who are they?

The story of Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) was left on a huge cliffhanger when Breaking Bad came to an end on AMC and Netflix in 2013. Last seen speeding away from the meth lab where he was kept prisoner, Jesse’s story was revisited in new Netflix film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Story. While the new film revisits plenty of features from the series, some fans are wondering if they’ve seen Kandy Welding Co before.

What is Kandy Welding Co?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Breaking Bad and El Camino.

Kandy Welding Co is the company Jack Welker (Michael Bowen) hired to work on his meth lab.

At his clubhouse, Jack and his neo-Nazi crew had built an entire lab to produce Heisenberg-standard meth.

They captured, tortured and imprisoned Jesse in order for him to subserviently cook them crystal meth.

However, with the risks of Jesse escaping, Jack and his right-hand man Kenny (Kevin Rankin) hired a welding company to build a structure that would allow him to cook while still being restrained.

This is where Kandy Welding Co come in as a flashback in El Camino, which shows Neil (Scott MacArthur) installing a structure that would allow just that.

Neil installed a fishplate and gussets into the lab which would stop Jesse escaping, no matter how fast he could run.

The structure worked and Jesse was only able to escape from the base thanks to Walter White (Bryan Cranston) in the season five finale.

Walt killed Jack and his gang with a complex device on which he mounted a military-grade assault rifle.

At the end of Breaking Bad, Walt shields Jesse from the automated gunfire and let him ride free – this is where El Camino picks up from.

Was the Kandy Welding Co in Breaking Bad?

Despite playing a major role in El Camino, the Kandy Welding Co did not appear in any episodes of Breaking Bad.

Neither did their main two workmen, Neil and right-hand man Casey (Scott Shepherd).

In fact, the structure in Jack’s meth lab isn’t explained until El Camino thanks to the flashback.

While Kandy Welding Co didn’t originally appear in Breaking Bad, there were a number of returning characters and features to make a comeback in the Netflix Original film.

Vacuum repairman Ed (Robert Forster) was also still alive to join Jesse in modern-day Albuquerque.

The sociopathic Todd (Jesse Plemons) returned in flashbacks, as did Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) and Kenny.

The return every Breaking Bad fan was waiting for also came to fruition when Walter White appeared in another flashback.

Breaking Bad and El Camino are both available to stream on Netflix now.
