Stefanos Tsitsipas makes Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal claim after Novak Djokovic win

Stefanos Tsitsipas has completed a feat not many others have in beating the top three players in the world in the same season.

The 21-year-old Greek star knocked world No 1 Novak Djokovic out of the Shanghai Masters this morning with a stunning three-set victory.

Tsitsipas started the year with an Australian Open win over Roger Federer and he then beat Rafael Nadal on clay at the Madrid Masters.

“I just realised that. It is amazing,” Tsitsipas told Amazon Prime.

“Well I did dream of that but I would never imagine within a year, but I did dream of that.

“It is happening and it is so cool.”

Tsitsipas had to fight from a set down against Djokovic in Shanghai and he left it late in the second set before launching a comeback.

The set looked destined for a tiebreak until the world No 7 took an opportunity presented to him son a plate.

“Being able to break at 6-5 and not going onto a tiebreak is very very important,” Tsitsipas said.

“You never know what can happen there. I kind of feel that he presented me with a double fault on deuce which helped me a little bit.

“He is not going to go that big on the next point.

“This break was very crucial for my psychology and coming in after that set I knew I was going to have more chances.”

Tsitsipas’ standards improved as the match went on and he will face US Open finalist Daniil Medvedev in tomorrow’s semi-final.

He added: “I played really well and felt in the zone in the second and third set in the rallies we were playing.

“That gave me a lot of confidence going in knowing I could face him from the baseline. As the match progressed I felt better and better.

“I felt my serve was going very well today and I wasn’t struggling with it too much. That was an extra boost for me out there.

“I am really happy that I pulled out a great victory like this.”
