Maleficent 2 Angelina Jolie reveals co-star almost IMPALED her and cheeky secret to flying

The movie follows 2014’s smash hit which ignited Disney’s live-action plans and was swiftly followed by Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Aladdin, Lion King and Dumbo. The sequel, though, ploughs new ground with an original story based on the characters. And Maleficent will be joined in the skies by some of her new co-stars. One of them almost caused a major incident on set, although they both laugh about it now – as well as explain the butt-clenching secret to flying on screen. Complimented on stage for how graceful she always looks making her dramatic landings as the winged anti-hero, Jolie was quick to point out those are the ones that are used in the film, there are plenty of much less elegant moment during filming.

Perhaps something fans can look forward to on the blooper reel?

The fun continued as Jolie revealed her pleasure this time around watching everyone else wrestling with wirework: “I got to watch everyone else and think, ‘You’re about to break your horn off. With wirework, there are so many different, funny things to think about.”

She also revealed which co-star almost brought to her to a sticky end…

She turned to co-star Ed Skrein, who will be playing Dark Fae character Borra and said: “You almost impaled me once, flying.”

“Yeah,’ he grinned. “The one thing I learned with wires is it’s all in the glutes. It’s all in the bum. Tense your bum and your core and you’re strong up there.”

A smiling Angelina mimed cupping someone’s glutes and added: “It’s how you hold it.”

It’s likely the real situation may have been rather a close shave. After all, think how big and long those horns are – but the camaraderie and good spirits were evident in the banter on stage.

Maleficent Mistress of evil picks up five years after the previous movie.

The title is possibly misleading, with the smart money being on Michelle Pfeiffer’s Queen Ingrith as the real villain.

As before, the movie sets out to subvert expectations, this time redefining notions of family, love and good and evil.
