Juliette Kaplan dead: Last of the Summer Wine and Coronation Street star dies aged 80

Juliette Kaplan’s agent Barry Langford wrote on Twitter: “Juliette Kaplan, ‘Our Pearl’, has finally succumbed to the cancer she has bravely battled for so long.

“Thank you everyone who sent their love and support to this fearless and supremely gifted actress.

“As she said, ‘Ta-ta and it’s been fun’. #LastOfTheSummerWine #RIP #Pearl.”

Earlier this month, her agent shared a picture of the star in a tribute on her 80th birthday.

He wrote: “Against all odds, the amazing Juliette Kaplan has reached her 80th birthday today!

“Sending love and congratulations to this brave lady.

“We haven’t quite seen #TheLastOfTheSummerWine while our #Pearl is still keeping an eye on things!”

The actress played her iconic character in 226 episodes from 1985 to 2010.

She also portrayed Agnes Tinker in ITV soap Coronation Street in 2015.

In her lengthy career, the star also made appearances in Doctors, Brookside, EastEnders, and London’s Burning.

Back in 2009, Juliette spoke out about her health after suffering from rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

After tests, she was given daily steroids to reduce the inflammation quickly and was later given B12 injections.

Juliette also had arm splints and a neck collar to give her support and help with movement.

In 2009, she told the Daily Mail: “Now, for the first time in three years I feel stabilised, with more energy, and I’m back to my normal self.

“I have occasional flare-ups if I’ve been overdoing it or had an emotional upset, so I make sure that I rest and exercise gently.”

Following the news of her death, many of her fans flocked to Twitter to pay a tribute.

One user wrote: “It was sad to hear of the passing of Juliette Kaplan today.

“So few of the Last of the Summer Wine cast left now but the joy they created continues to filter down the decades.”

Another commented: “#PearlSibshaw what a terrific actress! Rest in Peace #LastOfTheSummerWine.”

A third penned: “I didn’t know Juliette but met her many times – she was a lovely, funny lady and a dear friend to many friends of mine.

“Thinking of them and all her family and friends…RIP.”
