Kevin Clifton offers 'alternative' to Strictly after being booted off with Anneka Rice

Kevin Clifton, 36, and his celebrity dance partner Anneka Rice, 61, were the second couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2019 in last week’s elimination.

After being crowned champion with celebrity partner and now girlfriend Stacey Dooley, 38, last year, his luck seemed to have run out as he left following the dance-off.

The pair later posted a video on Anneka’s Instagram after they appeared on spin-off It Takes Two with Rylan Clark-Neal, declaring their sadness at leaving the show so soon.

“Oh Kev,” Anneka whimpered.

“Goodbye It Takes Two episode,” Kevin said sadly.

“We’ve been reunited for this one evening with Rylan,” Anneka explained while Kevin joked: “Shall we go dancing?”

“How are you feeling, have you just felt sad today?” she asked Kevin before he replied: “Yeah.”

“We’d have done the Pasa doble,” Anneka said as Kevin stared longingly into the distance: “Choreographing a whole Paso doble.”

“Its so sad!” Anneka moaned.

The two made some fake crying and sniffing sounds before bucking up and revealing their “alternative” plans in a big surprise for fans, who thought they’d seen the end of the dancing duo.

“We are going to be positive though,” Anneka exclaimed with a cheeky grin, before the pair giggled with excitement.

“We’re going to still carry on dancing and we’re going to do the Paso doble. We’re going to do a rehearsal this Friday and then the full fantastic version at Kev’s house on Saturday!” she declared.

“We’re going to live stream it for an alternative viewing experience on Saturday,” the pro dancer laughed. “Watch Anneka and Kevin live on the internet do a Paso doble live at my house!”

“It’ll be a massive hit!”

The surprise announcement left fans stunned and excited as they rushed to support the pair.

“I would so tune in!” one user commented. “Amazing idea!”

“You two are always my winners,” another said.

Kevin and Anneka got the boot in the second elimination, which is new territory for the reigning pro champion.

During his seven years on the show, the pro dancer has built a consistent record for avoiding an early goodbye.

He reached the final with Susanna Reid, Frankie Bridge, Kellie Bright and Louise Redknapp, then the quarter-finals with Susan Calman, before finally landing the winning spot with Stacey last year.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:10pm on BBC One.
