Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on why Liverpool clash is perfect for Man Utd after Newcastle loss

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy that his side’s next fixture is against old rivals Liverpool.

United’s defeat against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle has left the club just two points above the relegation zone after eight fixtures ahead of the international break.

Solskjaer has now discussed why he is pleased that the next game is against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, who have won all eight of their games so far this season.

The Norwegian told BBC Sport: “That’s a perfect game for us.

“The international break is also at the perfect time because their heads need a bit of airing.

“They will go away with their national teams, meet their team-mates and come back fresh.

“We have had a good time together, we have prepared since the first day of pre-season, we have stuck to the same principles.

“We have not got the result today but we have to keep carrying on.”

Axel Tuanzebe, who started in the 1-0 defeat at St. James’ Park on Sunday, has also given his thoughts on the upcoming test, and predicted a “brutal” encounter.

“It’s always a big game,” he said after the defeat.

“Through my Academy stages, Liverpool is a must-win.

“It’s a brutal game. It wasn’t a tippy-tappy game; no matter what age group.

“Obviously coming here to the first team, I expect more of the same.

“It will be a game where we need to grind it out and stick together and produce a result.”

United have now failed to win in eleven away games under Solskjaer after winning his first eight when he took over as caretaker boss, and they will have to wait until October 24 and their trip to Partizan in the Europa League to break the unwanted record.
