The First Lady, and wife of US President Donald Trump, attended the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Red Ribbon Rally to promote the upcoming Red Ribbon week to raise awareness of drug abuse. Part of Melania’s BeBest initiative raises awareness for drug abuse, in particular opioid dependence. After attending the event she tweeted: “A wonderful Red Ribbon rally at DEAHQ this AM. Schools are getting ready for Red Ribbon Week beginning on 10/23.
“We honour the many law enforcement agents who keep our communities safe & celebrate the students who pledged to live drug free lives today! BeBest.”
Many people were not impressed by Melania’s involvement in the rally and unleashed waves of criticism upon the First Lady through Twitter.
Lots of the posts claimed Melania’s campaign and attendance at the event was hypocritical.
Others also said the First Lady should use her campaign at home with Trump.
Donna Ohandley replied to Melania saying: “If you cant enforce BeBest at home, do you really think anyone should listen.
“I am not against BeBest, I am against the hypocrisy.”
One Twitter user said: “BeBest? Tell that to the man that sleeps in the room next to you!”
Kris Miner replied to Melania’s post on Twitter, she said: “Your husband shattered America’s reputation as a reliable ally.

“How about you set down your phone and try to get him to BeBest instead of being a worldwide disaster?”
One Twitter user told Melania she should “clean up the mess at home first”.
The First Lady was joined at the event by ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Dean Norris.
She received backlash for failing to wear a ribbon at the rally but the White House claimed she hadn’t received one before the event.
Lily Macias pointed this out on Twitter, she said: “You didn’t even wear a ribbon to support them.”
One Twitter user also replied to Melania’s post saying: “My children would have stayed home if you were at their school.”
At the event, Melania warned families of the dangers of smoking E-cigarettes and vaping.
Speaking to the crowd, Melania said: “I am so pleased to be here and for the opportunity to talk about the importance of being drug-free and helping to share the message of Red Ribbon week.
“Today is an opportunity to be proactive in our efforts to eliminate drug use and addiction among our youth.
“For Red Ribbon week, students can sign a pledge that, if honoured, will lead to a lasting positive impact on their lives and the lives of their friends and peers.”
Many fans of the First Lady took the opportunity to praise her and the work she has done.
Tina Brown wrote to Melania on Twitter: “You are being quite an excellent influence on our children. Thank you.”
Nancy Doyle praised the First Lady on Twitter, she said: “Thank you FLOTUS for always fighting for good causes!”
One Twitter user said: “Please keep up the good work. You are an amazing woman and a force to be reckoned with.”
