Why Cowboys wouldn’t have minded losing to Saints ahead of Packers clash

Dallas Cowboys would have enjoyed the chance to rectify their mistakes following the loss to the New Orleans Saints last week.

That’s the view of BBC pundit Jason Bell with the Cowboys welcoming Green Bay Packers today.

The Cowboys suffered their first defeat of the season last week as they were beaten 12-10 by the Packers.

And Bell believes it would have given Jason Garrett and his coaching staff the chance to iron out any issues they may have had through the opening weeks.

“Nobody thought they were going to go undefeated,” Bell told Express Sport.

“Sometimes it’s good to lose a game early.

“I’m not telling you what different coaches do, but they coach a little harder and correct mistakes a little harder when you’ve lost a game.

“Sometimes, early on, it’s good to clean those mistakes up which coaches have seen, they just haven’t said anything because you’ve been victorious.

“Now the Cowboys can go back, really focus in.

“Aaron Rodgers has had a lot of success in that stadium, so the Cowboys have to be on their A game.”

That success for Aaron Rodgers includes winning a SuperBowl at the AT&T Stadium in 2011.

And Cowboys coach Garrett recognises that stopping Rodgers will be key if Dallas are to earn win number four.

“He’s really good in the pocket, he’s really good out of the pocket,” Garrett said.

“He’s really good on time. He’s really good when the play breaks down. He is.

“Go back and look at his career. You guys know the stats better than I do. I bet his rating is better than anybody who has ever played the game.

“His touchdown to interception ratio better than anybody who has ever played the game. All that stuff. He’s a really good player.”
