Portugal elections 2019: Voting underway for new Prime Minister – when do polls close?

While polls are open for a day only, election results could take weeks to emerge in full.

The last winners in the polls were the Social Democrats in 2015, who ruled on a shaky minority government.

After 11 days in power, they were replaced by Antonio Costa’s Socialist Party, which governed with the help of Portugal’s left-wing.

They have spent the last four years in government under considerable scrutiny, as people initially feared another faltering short-term government.
