Reports Claim Jussie Smollett Might Be Charged In Hate Crime Hoax After All

According to a report from TMZ.com, Jussie Smollett, the Empire actor who was accused of concocting a hate-crime against himself for self-promotion, may still be up for charges even though they were previously dropped by the DA of Chicago.

Reportedly, Ola Osundairo and Abel met up with the special prosecutor, Dan Webb, earlier this week. The outlet reported on their meeting earlier this weekend. At one point, Jussie was facing off against a plethora of charges, including sixteen counts of lying to the police and filing a false police report.

After the DA of Chicago dropped the charges, the Chicago mayor, Rahm Emanuel, criticized the decision, calling it a “white-washing of justice.” Reportedly, Webb, who is the special prosecutor, in this case, has the power to reinstate the charges.

As it was previously reported, Jussie’s hate-crime hoax ruined his career, including seeing him axed from the show on which he previously starred, Empire. The series was the primary source of his income. New reports show that Abel and Ola Osundairo hiding their faces from security footage, albeit unsuccessfully.

Despite their best intentions, both brothers were successfully identified in the end, due to the fact the footage appeared to show their faces. Released by the Chicago Police Department, the two men were pictured sitting in a taxi car with one of them wearing a hoodie around his face.

An audio recording also featured Frank Gatson, the actor’s manager, phoning the police and saying to them that he worked for an “artist,” and someone attacked him when he went to Subway restaurant. Gatson can be heard saying in the clip that he just wanted to make sure his client was doing ok.

For the most part, the reaction to Jussie’s alleged actions has been met with widespread condemnation, especially among social media users. Earlier this year, Dave Chappelle released his new Netflix special, loved by audiences and hated by critics, in which he poked fun at Jussie’s hate-crime hoax.
