Katya Jones: Strictly pro denies being ‘drunk’ after falling over twice during live show

Katya Jones, 30, suffered an unfortunate mishap while performing her Cha Cha Cha with Mike Bushell, 53, when she took a dramatic tumble towards the end of the routine. The Strictly Come Dancing 2019 professional appeared to lose her footing and suddenly slipped and fell as the couple performed their Magic Mike themed dance during Movie Week. Katya then hit the floor once again when she and the BBC Breakfast host went to join Claudia Winkleman, 47, to receive their scores from the judges. The dancer took to Twitter to address her clumsy moment in view of her 73,000 followers after the show aired.

She explained: “Guys! I’m totally fine! No idea what happened. So sorry.

“But so proud of @mikebreakfast for carrying on and delivering ‘the dolphin’!”

Katya went on to clarify the reason behind her second fall in a separate tweet and spoke out to deny claims she was “drunk”.

She wrote: “FYI I did it again on purpose in Claudia’s area!

“And I’m def not drunk as some people think.”(sic)

Fans took to the comments section of Katya’s post to share their thoughts about her statement.

One person replied: “Some people. Ignore them, we all know how hard you both worked and you should be so proud!! I certainly am! It was an incredible dance and you styled it out, a true professional.”

Another added: “Soooo sorry people are making assumptions like that ignore them, you did amazingly and def got one of my votes.”(sic)

“Just ignore them all Katya some people can’t take a joke these days,” a third person commented.

Elsewhere, Katya’s partner Mike explained a blunder from his week two dance with the pro.

The presenter opened up about his cowboy themed American Smooth to his co-stars, Dan Walker and Louise Minchin, on BBC Breakfast last week.

Dan seemed particularly interested to find out the reason behind Mike’s strange behaviour – why he ate a banana from the middle.

He quizzed his colleague: “I’ve got to ask you about that banana incident, why did you eat it from the middle out?”

Mike explained: “Well, we had quite a few banana malfunctions I must say. In the dress rehearsal it fell out of the holster and actually put me off!”

Giving an example of the gaffe, he said: “I was in the middle of the dance move, the frame, I suddenly felt this thud and thought what was that? And it was the banana!

“So in the dress rehearsal the banana didn’t really happen.”

Strictly Come Dancing: The Results airs tomorrow at 7.15pm on BBC One.
