Caitriona Balfe was treated to a mischievous Instagram post from her Outlander co-star Sam Heughan, 39, to commemorate her 40th birthday. The actor, who plays the star’s on-screen husband Jamie Fraser in the drama, gushed about Caitriona’s qualities but couldn’t resist teasing her about some “inappropriate pictures”. Sharing a photo of the pair with their arms around each other and smiling for the camera in view of his 1.7 million followers, Sam wrote: “Happy Birthday @caitrionabalfe!!! “(…This is the only non inappropriate picture I could find!)
“Wishing this remarkable, generous, talented, gracious, elegant, big hearted, goof, the biggest birthday wishes!!”
“This is only the start of your success… Love ya Screen Wife,” he added.
In spite of the cheeky reference to the pictures, Caitriona was grateful for her colleague’s sweet message.
She replied in the comments section: “Awwwww right back at you darling!
“I’ll hold the fort down on 40 till you get here in a few months!!!”
Fans joined Sam in sharing their own birthday wishes to the actress.
The publication added their wedding was officiated by Rev. Louis Beasley-Suffolk, who also performed a Roman Catholic service.
At the time, Outlander fans were convinced Sam Heughan’s Instagram post was a picture of him at the wedding.
The actor shared a snap of himself sporting a grey suit and a black tie as he stood in front of an idyllic setting.
Sam leaned on an umbrella while holding onto a glass as he hid behind dark glasses.
He captioned the picture: “Remarkable weekend. Wonderful tailoring @alfreddunhill.”
The actress confirmed she was engaged to Anthony after two years of dating in 2018.
