Susanna Reid: Piers Morgan's GMB co-host addresses looks and ageing 'Doesn't bode well'

Susanna Reid has been appearing on screens since the early 2000s, when she was in her early 30s.

Now 48, the brunette beauty is a fan favourite on Good Morning Britain, where she takes her place at the desk at the crack of dawn Monday to Thursday every week.

In her latest column for the MailOnline, the ITV presenter opened up on the pressures to look a certain way as she reflected on her award-winning night at the National Reality TV Awards 2019 earlier this week.

Susanna joined a host of glamorous stars at the bash, including reality heavyweights such as the cast of Love Island and Geordie Shore, who were dressed to the nines.

On the subject of today’s beauty standards, Susanna wrote: “‘Fake’ used to be an insult, but now it’s a badge of honour, with hair extensions, tans and nails all artificial, but looking fabulous.

“No, I couldn’t pick half of these young stars out of a line-up, but they entertain millions every week – and I share their love of a fake eyelash,” she admitted.

The GMB host went on to recall how she used to look, saying: “I do think the glitz of reality stars and social media is changing our society.

“At 20, I barely wore make-up and rarely visited a hairdresser.

“My graduation photo shows bushy brows and a blotchy complexion that makes me cringe when I see it in Mum’s living room,” she added.

When it comes to ageing, Susanna said older women “blow her away” with their incredible looks.

“On the GMB sofa, gravel-voiced Bonnie Tyler revealed her smooth skin at 68 is down to ‘Botox twice a year,’” she noted.

She also praised Hayley Mills, 73, and her “natural, softly lined” visage, saying: “How does she looks so fabulous?”

“‘Not getting up at sparrow’s-fart every morning,’” she quoted the English actress, adding: “Which doesn’t bode well for my hopes of looking that good in 20 years!”

Susanna wrote in her column that she wouldn’t want to go live on GMB without her full face of makeup, calling it her “armour”.

However, she also frequently shares makeup-free selfies on social media, preferring to keep a realistic and natural portrayal of herself.

At the NRTAs, Susanna came out on top, scooping three awards, while her GMB co-star Piers Morgan, 54, failed to receive any nominations.

The stunning star took home the award for Best TV Presenter, Best TV Personality and was there to collect the Best Talk Show gong on behalf of the show.

Piers appeared lightheartedly bitter about her success, jibing: “It remains a mystery just exactly what these awards are. Or who organises them. Or what they are about. Out even how you vote!”

When Susanna shared the news of her wins on Twitter, he retweeted the post in view of his 6.8 million followers, exclaiming: “AGAIN?! That’s 3000 consecutive years!

“You’re the Ant and Dec of the Reality TV Awards. Congrats,” he added.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
