Game of Thrones: Tyrion Lannister killed Joffrey Baratheon in shocking axed storyline

Game of Thrones fans quickly warmed to Tyrion Lannister (played by Peter Dinklage) with his charm and wit right from his first appearance in season one. Despite his family putting him through years of humiliation and cruelty the character always stayed noble and sought to do what was right. However, the original pitch by George R.R Martin saw the fan-favourite undergo a devastating character transformation.

A now deleted tweet from Waterstones appeared to include three images of a letter from George R.R. Martin to his agent pitching Game of Thrones.

One of the major spoilers revealed was that it was originally meant to be Tyrion who killed King Joffrey.

Game of thrones fans will remember Tyrion often had to bite his tongue in the presence of his evil nephew Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson), who would demand anyone’s head he wished purely for the thrill of it.

However, the original plot saw Joffrey finally have enough and kill the evil young king.

The pitch read: “Tyrion Lannister will continue to travel, to plot, and to play the game of thrones, finally removing his nephew Joffrey in disgust at the boy king’s brutality.”

However, things didn’t get better for the noble Lannister after Joffrey was removed.

His brother Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was next in line.

The writer explained: “Jaime Lannister will follow Joffrey on the throne of the Seven Kingdoms, by the simple expedient of killing everyone ahead of him in the line of succession and blaming his brother Tyrion for the murders.”

In the leaked pitch, Daenerys had far more similar interests to her evil brother Viserys than seen on the show.

The same text revealed the Dragon wanted to become the harsh ruler she became in season eight right from the start.

The pitch read: “Over across the narrow sea, Daenerys Targaryen will discover that her new husband, the Dothraki Khal Drogo, has little interest in invading the Seven Kingdoms, much to her brother’s frustration.

“When Viserys presses his claims past the point of tact or wisdom, Khal Drogo will finally grow annoyed and kill him out of hand, eliminating the Targaryen pretender and leaving Daenerys as the last of her line.
