Arsenal thrashed Standard Liege 4-0 in the Europa League thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli (x2), Joe Willock and Dani Ceballos.
Martinelli was the star of the show and kicked things off with a fantastic header into the far corner after Kieran Tierney’s whipped cross.
The summer signing added to his tally minutes later with a composed right-footed finish in the box after some neat footwork in the area.
Joe Willock then got on the scoresheet before half-time and Dani Ceballos rounded off the scoring in the second period after Martinelli’s brilliant dinked assist.
Arsenal player ratings vs Standard Liege:
Emiliano Martinez – 7
Didn’t have anything to do all evening, saved any shots that came his way.
Hector Bellerin – 6
A composed game from the Spaniard, who is still feeling his way back in after seven months out with a knee injury.
Kieran Tierney – 8
A brilliant performance from the £25million signing, who assisted Martinelli’s first goal and was promising all night.
Dani Ceballos – 7
Good night’s work for Ceballos. Scored his first goal for the club and looked bright.
Lucas Torreira – 6
Easy night for Torreira, who could have scored late on with a volley but saw his shot blocked.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 6 (Nicolas Pepe 65)
Quiet night for the youngster but he looked positive and came off for record signing Nicolas Pepe midway through the second half.
Rob Holding – 7
Clean sheet, didn’t have to do much all night, led his defence perfectly.
Shkodran Mustafi – 6
Solid night for the defender but misplaced a few passes, as well as a couple of unnecessary long balls.
Reiss Nelson – 7 (Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 79)
Attacking in his play, picked up an assist and should have got himself on the scoresheet before coming off for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Joe Willock – 8 (Matteo Guendouzi 75)
Great night for Willock who scored in the first half before making way for Matteo Guendouzi in the second period.
Gabriel Martinelli – 10
Perfect tens for the Brazilian. Martinelli looked threatening all evening and could have had three or four when it was all said and done.
Subs
Matteo Guendouzi – 5
Easy job for the Frenchman once he came on for Willock.
Nicolas Pepe – 5
Came on and tried his best to get going but was afforded little time to do so.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – (N/A)
Came on with minutes to go and barely touched the ball, fired one shot just over the bar.
