Joker outtake: Who is Joker angry at in outtake? Joaquin Phoenix 'embarrassed'

Joaquin Phoenix has been spoken about in the press for some slightly odd interview experiences. He recently walked out of an interview for his new film, Joker, and is known for being fiercely private. In a recent interview, he admitted his embarrassment at an outtake from the DC movie.

In an interview with US TV host Jimmy Kimmel, Phoenix cringed at the sight of an outtake where he is clearly frustrated with the filming process, and vents to himself.

Of course, Phoenix is also known for being a method actor, meaning this moment could actually be an example of Arthur Fleck’s frustration seeping through into his own life.

In the video, Phoenix complains about “constant whispering” on the set, complaining particularly about “Larry.”

He said: “Just shut the f*** up… I’m trying to find something real,” among other mutterings, and at one point comments on his being supposedly compared to the singer Cher.

At this accusation, Phoenix added: “I know you started the f***ing Cher thing, Larry… It’s not even an insult. Cher, really?

“She’s a singer, actor, dancer, fashion icon. How is that a f***ing insult? I can’t do this.”

Phoenix was forced to watch this moment back by Kimmel, who giggled as he believed the moment to be funny and lighthearted.

However, for Phoenix, that was clearly not the case, and he was evidently taken aback by the clip being shown to the world, commenting on how it was “private.”

He said: “Yeah Larry is the cinematographer, this is so embarrassing…

“Sometimes movies get intense because you are a lot of people in a small space and you’re trying to find something so it can feel intense.

“But that was supposed to be private. I’m a little embarrassed. I’m sorry about that. Sorry you guys had to see that.”

Phoenix added: ”It’s not Larry’s fault. Let me think about this a bit more. My publicist will issue a formal statement tomorrow. Can we move on?”

He begged Kimmel to move on to something else, before continuing to try to defend his actions.

“I should probably publicly apologise to Larry. Larry, the thing is though I am sorry, but he did whisper, like, constantly while we’re trying to work and sometimes it was really hard to find the emotion that you were after.

“It was wrong, I’m sorry, but he shouldn’t have done it. I’ll be honest!”

Larry is the nickname given to the director of photography Lawrence Sher, who has worked with director Todd Phillips on The Hangover series and Due Date, all of which were directed by Phillips.

At the moment, Sher has not spoken out about this, and since the viral video was seen, Phoenix’s publicists have suggested the video is in fact fake.

The Wrap reported that reps told them the clips were “a joke,” but Phoenix seemed to take the moment very seriously.

Additionally, according to the New York Times interview with Phillips, Phoenix had form for walking off set if things were not right.

Phillips said: “In the middle of the scene, he’ll just walk away and walk out.

“And the poor other actor thinks it’s them and it was never them — it was always him, and he just wasn’t feeling it.”

Let’s hope the final cut shows him “feeling it.”

Joker is in cinemas from October 4
