Michelle Obama fury: Ex-FLOTUS mocked in $30K-a-week spa row with Wall Street 'fat cats'

The former FLOTUS visited a wellness spa last year that is targeted at the middle class and for those who want a luxury weekend practicing yoga and embracing their inner peace. The spa is called The Ranch and is a high-end wellness spa located in the foothills of Malibu.

However, the luxury spa is not cheap and can cost a whopping $30,000 (£24,411) for a one week stay.

Michelle is said to be a big fan of The Ranch, but some of the resort’s wealthy regulars would rather not share the space with the former First Lady again like they did last year.

Last year, Michelle allegedly rocked up with half-a-dozen friends and nearly two dozen secret service agents.

Clients at the resort told Fox Business that the experience was far from relaxing.

One client who was visiting the spa at the same time as Michelle said: “I guess Michelle was nice enough.

“But it’s kind of a hassle and not very relaxing to go on a hike surrounded by guys with plugs in their ears watching your every move.”

Other patrons have also said it’s odd that Michelle would want to visit the spa considering how her husband, former US President Barack Obama, often rallied against millionaires, billionaires and Wall Street “fat cats”.

One regular attendee said: “This place is filled with rich Wall Street dudes looking to lose weight.”

Michelle’s net worth is said to be $40million (£32.55million) as of August 2019, but this is set to increase, according to The Evening Standard.

She makes $225,000 (£183,083) for each speaking appearance, according to The New York Post.

Her husband Barack is also worth $40million (£32.55million) according to a 2018 estimate by Analytics@American.

The couple earned an estimated $20.5million between 2005 and 2016.

The former US President earned $400,000 (£325,482) a year as president and now earns just over half that – $205,700 (£167,379) a year – from his annual pension.

His pension comes from the 1958 Former Presidents Act.

Before becoming First Lady, Michelle attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School.

She had a career as an attorney at a Chicago Law firm called Sidley & Austin, where she also met her husband Barack Obama.

She then worked at the Chicago mayor’s office, the University of Chicago and the University of Chicago Medical Centre.

Her best-selling memoir, ‘Becoming’, sold more copies than any other book published in the US in 2018.
