Riverdale season 4 spoilers: Is Hiram Lodge set for a huge revenge plot?

Season four will be premiering on The CW on October 10. The show launching its biggest story yet as viewers discover what really happened to Jughead Jones (played by Cole Sprouse). This year, Riverdale will also see the characters moving into the final year of high school with college looming ahead of them. Riverdale is going to be upping the ante before the central quartet Jughead, Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) could be separated forever and moving onto the next stage of their lives.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Riverdale season 3

One character who has fallen into the background is mob boss Hiram Lodge (Mark Conseulos), who ended up ironically incarcerated in his own prison.

In a plot orchestrated by Veronica and Archie, the high school students managed to take down Hiram with FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) arresting him.

Despite being thrown in the Lodge Detention Center for his misdeeds, Hiram was already scheming and planning his revenge against his enemies.

Hiram is going to be taking aim at his family including his now estranged wife Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) after she went against his plans to privatise Riverdale and essentially run the town himself.

As fans will remember, Hermione refused to go along with Hiram’s plans and was subsequently sidelined by him.

On top of that, Hermione tried to get Hiram killed off with a very much alive Sheriff Minetta (Henderson Wade) involved in the plot.

Season three was definitely a turning point in the marriage between Hiram and Hermione with the latter only sticking with the mafia kingpin out of fear.

Both Hiram and Hermione were revealed to be having affairs with the mayor involved with Minetta and Riverdale’s answer to The Godfather keeping a mistress at the Five Seasons called Ms. Mulwray (Kelly Ripa).

So, there’s no love lost between the married couple and Hiram will wreak revenge on Hermione.

At the end of season three, Hiram was working out in the prison yard and received news from one of the guards.

He found out that Hermione had been arrested after evidence had been planted to take her down.

Hermione’s downfall was just the first step in Hiram’s revenge as he added that his daughter Veronica didn’t even know what was coming.

With this in mind, it looks like Hiram could have something to do with the central mystery involving Jughead.

Although Hiram is seemingly out of the picture, he’s pulling strings from behind the scenes and his machinations will become clear as season four goes on.

In a new video from The CW, Riverdale star Mark Consuelos said: “You kind of try to forecast what’s going to happen with your character and I knew in my mind that he’s building this jail, it’s a private jail, it’s his, that he may be the first client in the jail.”

He revealed he even spotted a blunder and told the producers, explaining: “So he was [the first prisoner].

“Part of the conversation we had when he wore the jumpsuit was the number. What’s the deal with that random number? I was like, ‘Shouldn’t it be 0001?’”

The writers then subsequently changed the number to 0001 to reflect Hiram’s status as the first resident of the detention centre.

Hiram is unlikely to remain in the prison by himself for long with more prisoners likely to be admitted before too long.

The gangster is highly likely to also be plotting with other prisoners as he plans to rise from the ashes and destroy his enemies before retuning to Riverdale.

Riverdale season 4 starts October 10 on The CW and October 11 on Netflix
