Spider-Man MCU return BAD news? 'Marvel plotting the END of Spidey with two final movies'

What a tangled web Disney and Marvel seem to be weaving. After weeks of distress when fans feared Spidey would never swing again in the Avengers movies, there was new hope this week. Disney and Sony announced they had reached a deal which would allow the beloved crossover to continue. But have hope already been dashed that it will last longer than one or two more movies?

Earlier this week Kevin Feige said (via Variety): “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it.

“Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe.

“He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

Sony boss Amy Pascal also added to the good news, confirming a  Summer 2021 release date.

But industry insiders have suggested this is only a temporary compromise.

Variety made its own comment on the story: “Though both sides are hinting the pact could be extended again, Feige seems to be plotting an endgame that will wrap up Peter Parker’s story in the MCU…”

This is not what fans want to hear.

Although, Sony’s upcoming plans to bring in more from the larger Spidey comicbook source universe promise plenty of delights with Peter Parker moving through his own cinematic uiniverse.

Variety added: “(It) could see the character cross over into Sony’s own budding universe of characters that includes Venom and Morbius. “

Variety also reported how the future Spiderverse could expand even further “with films centering (sic) on others in the works, including the dimension-spanning Madame Web.”

With the exits of Captain America and Iron Man, Spider-Man had been expected to form an integral part of the Avengers, especially since he has always been seen as Tony Stark’s protegee and ‘heir’ in the team. What will happen now with future Avengers movies?

However, the new deal between Sony and Disney does still have one piece of good news. According to Variety: “As part of the arrangement, Spider-Man will also appear in one future Marvel Studios film.”

There is no Avengers team movie scheduled as yet for the next few years of Marvel Phase 4. Hopefully, Spidey still has a good few more years yet with the old gang…

SPIDER-MAN 3 WILL BE RELEASED ON JULY 16, 2021
