Debbie McGee: ‘I hate to say’ Strictly Come Dancing star makes 'smelly’ admission

Debbie McGee, 60, recently took a short break from her regular hosting duties on BBC Radio Berkshire last week but revealed she has been involved in two exciting new projects. The Strictly Come Dancing finalist spilled she will be on a celebrity spin-off of Bargain Hunt for Children In Need but added she donated a “smelly” item for the cause. Debbie told listeners: “I finished off my Bargain Hunt that I was doing for Children In Need. And it was quite amazing because at the auction, we were asked to donate something to Children In Need. “So I donated a pair of my Strictly dancing shoes that I actually wore on Strictly.

“They were still smelly everyone. I hate to say but they were.”

She continued: “And they [the show] added two tickets for the recording of Strictly this year and an overnight stay at a hotel near the Elstree studios.

“They went for £2,000. I couldn’t believe it. It’s so fabulous that they’ve gone to Children In Need.”

Debbie appeared on the BBC series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and made it to the final with her dance partner Giovanni Pernice, 28.

The radio host also revealed she will be making appearance on the popular quiz show Pointless in the coming months.

“I was filming Pointless Celebrities Xmas. I’m doing loads of little things like that over Christmas,” Debbie explained.

Elsewhere, Debbie recently reflected on a “very romantic” moment she experienced during a holiday to Venice with her husband Paul Daniels.

She recalled: “I had a very romantic thing happen to me in Venice.

“I was with my husband and we were staying in a hotel on the Grand Canal and we were having drinks before dinner on a balcony outside.”

During the evening, Debbie revealed she was approached by a “very good looking” man, who she compared to the suave man from Cadbury’s Milk Tray adverts.

She continued: “This very good looking guy, he looked like the Milk Tray man, came along in his very flashy speed boat and moored up just below us and climbed up the balustrades and window boxes of flowers, and over the balcony.

“He smiled at us, went and met this Miss World fantastic looking girl and had a glass of champagne with her.”

She added: “He climbed over the balcony where there was a window box and he picked a rose for me, a lovely red flower.

“He climbed back up again and gave the rose to me, even though I was with my husband, and then blew me a kiss as he whizzed away on his boat into the sunset.”

The former magician’s assistant was married to the late Paul Daniels until his death in 2016.

The Debbie McGee Show airs Sundays on BBC Radio Berkshire at 11.00am.

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight on BBC One at 7.15pm.
