Strictly 2019: Tess Daly distracts fans as they see what she really does off camera

Tess Daly, 50, dazzled tonight as the second live instalment of Strictly Come Dancing go underway, with the host having to apologise for technical difficulties at the beginning of the show. However, what she might not have realised was the camera was still very much on her when she thought she was no longer being seen by viewers of the BBC dance show.

Part of Tess’ duties on the show is to introduce the couples before a pre-recorded VT plays out and then join the pair once they’ve performed their dance.

What fans don’t get to see is how the host gets from A to B as she doesn’t have long to ensure she is in place for when the camera is back on her.

Tonight’s edition of the popular programme gave the way however, as after several performances, fans could see the presenter scurrying off to get to the next place she was needed.

The moment was caught just off camera as when couples rush off after speaking with the judges, they are usually the main focus of the shot.

The scores from the second live show were combined with the judges marks from last weekend to give each couple a combined total going into the first elimination.

Currently topping the leaderboard with a staggering 63 points are Karim Zeroual, 25, and his professional partner, Amy Dowden, 28.

Just behind them are Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, 51, and Giovanni Pernice, 29, with a total score of 62.

On the other end of the spectrum, James Cracknell, 47, and his partner Luba Mushtuk, 29, are in last position with a combined score of 24.

Not far off the Olympian are former footballer David James, 49, and Nadiya Bychkova, 30, with a combined total of 27.

Following his evening’s performances, both James and David are the favourites to be eliminated according to latest odds from Coral bookmakers.

The pair stand a evens to leave the show first, whereas Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher, 35, is the favourite to win at 13/8.

Coral spokesperson John Hill said: “We think James Cracknell and David James are the two contestants who should be most worried about surviving this weekend and we expect them both to be in the dance-off where they will need to improve to keep their spot on the show.”

James’ performance did leave viewers emotional this evening as a pre-recorded VT which played before the show saw him open up about the impact of his brain injury.

One viewer posted on Twitter: “He may not be the best dancer, but to be on Strictly after such a severe brain injury takes a lot of bravery and courage. Bravo, James Cracknell #Strictly.”

Another added: “I worked in acquired brain injury rehab for a long time. I am SO rooting for James Cracknell – he’s an all round legend, but this could be one of his hardest challenges #Strictly.”

A third wrote: “I’m routing for James Cracknell to score higher this week. I didn’t realise he had a brain injury not long ago. Bound to make performing tough. #Strictly.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues tomorrow night at 7.15pm on BBC One.
