Shaun Ryder is a singer and songwriter who is known by many for fronting the band, Happy Mondays. He became a TV personality after starring in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and he has also taken part in Pointless Celebrities. The singer recently appeared on the celebrity version of Gogglebox and fans were quick to comment on his new look. Opening up about his new look, Shaun explained battles with alopecia had caused him to look very different.
After fans spotted his new look, they took to Twitter to speculate on what caused it.
One fan said: “Watching #gogglebox and wondering what’s with Shaun Ryder. He looks very unwell.”
However, he explained the cause of his look during an appearance on the daytime TV show, Good Morning Britain.
“I’ve just had a new hip, and at the same time all my body hair decides to fall out,” he told presenters.
“No eyelashes, no fingernails, no head, no hair whatsoever. We don’t really know.
“Because I have an under active thyroid that makes you put on weight and slow down, they thought it might have been linked to that or the fact I don’t produce testosterone anymore.”
Shaun admitted they did not know what had caused the condition but it could have been down to stress.
He said: “They don’t know what’s caused it. At first they thought I had that immune deficiency thing, but I haven’t.
“Then they said it was linked to me under active thyroid but that just makes me fat and tired.
“They said it might be stress related, but I’m the least stressed I’ve ever been in my life, so they’ve got a lot more experimenting on me to find out.”
The Happy Mondays star was questioned about his appearance on The Chris Moyles Show where he said it was an “alopecia thing”.
He will appear with other celebrities as they compete on the BBC show, Pointless, which is hosted by Alexander Armstrong.
The presenter has fronted the show since it began and has managed to build up a huge fortune of his own.
