MH370 reward: How £200,000 is on offer for information on missing Malaysia Airlines plane

MH370 went missing on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. The incident has been extensively investigated by Malaysian authorities with help from Australia and other countries around the world. The investigation concluded that the plane must have ended up in the southern Indian Ocean, but all search missions have proved futile.

Around a year ago, all investigations were reportedly stopped, but the Malaysian government said they would be open to investigating further if “new credible evidence” was presented.

A group dedicated to helping the families of people lost in the MH370 disaster have started to campaign to increase public awareness, accusing the authorities of hiding information.

With the help of generous donors, they are even offering a huge sum of money as a prize for anyone who might have useful information related to the tragedy.

The website, www.flightmh370.org, states: “Flight MH370, which departed on March 8, 2014, from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared into thin air and apparently crashed into the Indian Ocean.

“The flight was carrying 239 people, including mothers, fathers, children and grandchildren.

“Friends and family members did not have a chance to say goodbye, and from that day they have not been able to find peace.

“An investigation was opened, but the authorities chose to hide information and tried to whitewash the findings of their investigation since this tragedy began until now, five years later.

“A year ago, all investigations were stopped, and it looks like the authorities will not resume investigations.

“As such, we have decided to offer €250,000 (£220,000) as a gift to anyone who can provide us with any new information on event points before, during or after the flight.

“We hope that with your help we will be able to discover the truth and find out what is hidden from us and why.

“If you have new information that can solve the mystery, please contact us by filling in the form below. Confidentiality is guaranteed!”

The group have also handed out flyers with information about the prize money in Putrajaya, a city south of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Worryingly, one member of the group claims to have been arrested for handing out flyers on July 31.

The investigator, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Express.co.uk how the police questioned him after seeing him handing out the flyers at Putrajaya Square.

He said he was “shocked” that they took him to the police station and confiscated around 1500 flyers.

The police allegedly told him that MH370 is a subject which is forbidden to talk about under the current Government.

He claims they took his details and told him to go home, although he first went to meet his two friends who were handing out flyers in different locations, and helped them until they had finished, all while trying to avoid the police.

One of the organisers told Express.co.uk that the investigator was “panicked and afraid” after the encounter with the police.

He said that they are not revealing their identities as they fear the Government will ”harass us and try to silence us”.

Consequently, the site reads: “We remain anonymous because the authorities are looking for us.

“We will not reveal ourselves and we will not stop until the truth is revealed.”

The organiser expressed disbelief and anger at the incident.

He said: “It is unbelievable to suddenly understand that the Malaysian Government is silencing attempts to help the grieving families from reaching any closure for their loss.

“Is it illegal to talk about anything regarding MH370?

“As if it is not enough that the administration gave up all hope of solving the mystery and to ease the families’ pain by giving them answers – now it is illegal to even try.”
