Joe Cole claims Liverpool are firm title favourites because of Man City ‘weaknesses’

Joe Cole says Manchester City have “weaknesses” that make Liverpool firm favourites for the Premier League title.

Liverpool beat Sheffield United 1-0 on Saturday to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side opened up an eight-point gap over Manchester City ahead of their trip to Everton later in the day.

Cole says he can barely see any weaknesses in the Liverpool team but can in City.

He reckons if Liverpool do not come out on top this term then they would be the best team to have not won the title in Premier League history.

“I said it a couple of weeks ago, I said this team’s got everything, they’re fully equipped to win the league and you’ve seen that today with the performance of [Virgil] Van Dijk and [Andy] Robertson,” Cole said on BT Sport.

“More importantly I think I put them now as firm favourites because I can see little weaknesses with Man City.

“With Liverpool we’ve had to trawl through to find half a weakness, maybe Trent [Alexander-Arnold] gets exposed a little bit because of the system.

“They’ve got everything, they were fantastic today and if they don’t win the title this year they will probably go down as the best team not to win it, because they’re fantastic.”

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch paid tribute to Sheffield United’s performance but says the Reds have got everything they need to win their first Premier League title.

“A couple of years ago they might have lost that game,” Crouch said.

“I think this year they looked well equipped.

“Van Dijk, he’s been the huge difference, he was everywhere today, in the right position and nullified the threat.

“Some of Robertson’s blocks as well, superb, but Sheffield United threw everything at them and they were a real credit.”
