Everton vs Man City LIVE: Line ups confirmed, Premier League team news and fixtures

EVERTON vs MANCHESTER CITY

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Mina, Digne, Delph, Schneiderlin, Walcott, Sigurdsson, Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Otamendi, Fernandinho, Zinchenko, Rodri, Gundogan, Mahrez, De Bruyne, Sterling, Jesus

The managers…

17:25: Hmmm. Frosty. Both managers seemed extremely short and a touch angry in their pre-match interviews. I suppose you can understand why with Marco Silva hanging by a thread and Liverpool enjoying an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Goals galore

17:20: Manchester City have scored 24 goals in their opening six league games this season – the most by a top-flight team in the opening six matches of a season since Wolves in 1955-56 (25 goals).

Twitter reaction

Paddy: The pressure seems to be building on Everton boss Marco Silva. If his side beats title-chasing Manchester City on Saturday that could be the final straw for many Everton fans.

Lloyd: Been a while since I’ve been that surprised by the team selection. Not sure what moves Marco Silva to leave arguably his most dangerous player on the bench (for the 2nd weeks running) while picking perhaps his worst attacker. Genuinely baffled.

Jeje: Pep Guardiola is playing Fantasy Football. He is actually gambling on it. Only reason this his nonsense team tweaking is happening with important players people have on their own teams.

Sensing some bitterness on both sides tonight. Can’t imagine this will come back to haunt either manager…

Team News – It’s strange…

17:15: Manchester City’s record scorer Sergio Aguero is on the bench.

Gabriel Jesus spearheads a City attack that also includes Raheem Sterling, who was an unused substitute in last week’s 8-0 win over Watford.

Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho are again partnered in defence while David Silva and Bernardo Silva are also among the substitutes.

Everton made two changes from the side beaten by Sheffield United last week with Theo Walcott and Dominic Calvert-Lewin replacing Bernard and Moise Kean.

Silva braced for City storm

17:10: Everton eased some of the pressure on boss Marco Silva with victory in the Carabao Cup at Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, but must be wary of another lightning start by Manchester City, who struck five times inside the opening 18 minutes in last week’s 8-0 rout of Watford.

The champions, stung by their recent defeat at Norwich, have a clinical, steely resolve about them, scoring 14 goals in their last three matches and it is difficult to envisage anything other than a fourth Premier League defeat of the season for the Merseysiders, who sit three points above the relegation zone.

EVERTON vs MANCHESTER CITY – TEAM NEWS

Everton will still be without Andre Gomes and Jean-Philippe Gbamin for the visit of the champions.

Gbamin continues to be sidelined by a thigh problem while Gomes is not yet back in full training because of a rib issue.

Manager Marco Silva hopes Gomes will be fit for next weekend’s trip to Burnley, or at the very latest after the international break.

Nicolas Otamendi and Fernandinho are again expected to play in central defence for City.

Centre-backs John Stones (thigh) and Aymeric Laporte (knee) are both out injured and teenagers Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who both played at Preston in midweek, are the only other specialist options.

A number of other players are likely to return after being rested at Preston including Ederson, Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne.
