Beatles reunion: McCartney back together with Ringo at star studded party

Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr were guests of honour at a star-studded party held at the famous London recording studios that inspired the title of the album. Arriving at the event Sir Paul, 77, caught the eye in a dark blue denim jacket as he arrived at the glitzy star-studded bash with his glamorous wife Nancy Shevell, 59. Sir Ringo, 79, made his way to the event hand-in-hand with wife Barbara Bach, 72.

The two couples were joined by a host of famous faces to mark the golden anniversary of the penultimate album from the Fab Four.

Guests included Chic founder Nile Rogers, actor Martin Freeman, Rocketman star Taron Egerton, Bake Off host Noel Fielding and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

The Beatles famously held up traffic in 1969 by posing on the zebra crossing outside their recording studio to capture the album cover shot, taken by freelance photographer Iain Macmillan.

Abbey Road was the band’s 11th album and the last to be recorded by all the members of the group at the same time.

Thursday’s reunion comes after it was revealed that Sir Ringo and Sir Paul have joined forces to cover a song John Lennon had written in the months prior to his death.

The former Beatle had written Grow OldWith Me while in the studio to record his final album Double Fantasy, which was released just weeks before he was shot dead outside his Manhattan apartment in 1980.

It was record producer Jack Douglas who informed Sir Ringo who then asked Sir Paul to play bass guitar.

Speaking about the track Sir Ringo said: “Jack asked if I ever heard The Bermuda Tapes, John’s demos from that time. And I had never heard all this. And I just loved this song. I sang it the best that I could. I well up when I think of John this deeply.

“And I’ve done my best. We’ve done our best.”
