Simon Reeve wife: How Simon Reeve was forced by wife to move to Dartmoor with their son

Best known for his groundbreaking and insightful documentaries, Simon Reeve, 46, will join the likes of Jack Whitehall and Helen Mirren on the sofa of The Graham Norton Show tonight (September 27). Reeve’s made a name for himself exploring different corners of the globe, from Kyrgyzstan to South Ossetia, as well as penning a number of books. He admits his biggest challenges come from behind the camera, however, and has spoken publicly about his private life with wife Anya.

A move away from London may seem a walk in the park for a man who’s faced the treacherous condition of numerous mountains ranges and the unknown wilderness of several locations across the globe.

However, it was a much bigger task for Reeve then he imagined.

In an interview with the Guardian earlier this year, the documentary-maker revealed he “misses London loads”.

He moved out of the capital to live somewhere more remote away from the hustle and bustle of the city lights with his wife and son.

He explains how his wife was instrumental in the decision as he was lightly “forced” to make it happen.

Reeve said: “I miss London loads. I was born and bred there.

“I moved to Dartmoor six years ago, mainly because my wife slightly forced me.

“It was a chance to do the middle-class midlife thing of making a go of it somewhere remote.

“It’s a bit testing but my lad loves it. He has a bushcraft knife, a large dog and lots of space. I can’t take that away from him.”

Reeve and his wife’s new surroundings in Dartmoor allowed them to bring up their son Jack, seven, in “somewhere remote.”

While it may have been a challenge to pack his bags, Reeve revealed he’s always open to a new challenge.

In the same interview, he said: “Everybody needs to be pushed out of their comfort zone.

“Otherwise, you don’t feel alive. But to get out of situations in places, I’ve claimed sickness, religious faith, cultural requirements or a sudden limp.

“In the Caucasus mountains, people were physically pushing me to do the first dance at a wedding.

“It was a very uncomfortable moment. I don’t dance and I’m not starting at a bloody wedding.”

Anya also works in television as a camera operator behind the scenes.

She also stood as a Green Party candidate over a decade ago.

The Graham Norton Show continues tonight at 10:35pm on BBC One.
