Mike Bushell, 53, and his wife Emily, 39, fell in love in a whirlwind romance after first meeting last February. Speaking out about their relationship, Emily told OK! Magazine: “In the past, I’ve had a checklist and it’s never got me to where I wanted to be. When I met Mike I thought, gosh, you’re quite short,” she admitted. “But he’s just so kind and warm. He’s everything I never thought I’d be with, but he’s the most perfect person and we laugh every day.”
Strictly Come Dancing 2019 star Mike, meanwhile, said he “just knew” he wanted to commit to his new wife.
“We read each others minds and there’s a complete ease between us,” she gushed.
Mike is father to three daughters from his previous marriage to Kim Payne.
The pair divorced after 16 years of marriage in 2009.
At his recent wedding to Emily, Mike’s daughters were bridesmaids, while her 10-year-old son Josh walked her down the aisle with along with her father.
The couple celebrated their nuptials true to their character, with an “unconventional” first dance on the big day.
Mike recalled “jumping up and down to Sun Is Shining by Axwell & Ingrosso, adding: “[It’s] a bit of a trance tune so quite unconventional”.
Asked whether they planned to have any children together, she told the publication: “We have [spoken about it] and we’re not going to.
“I thought I’d have more than one child, but life has moved on so much and we’re happy.
“To go back to the start again would be madness,” she continued, quipping: “We’re talking about whether to get a dog or not!”
Elsewhere, Mike is currently taking part in Strictly Come Dancing and is paired with professional dancer Katya Jones, 30.
The duo made their debut on the dance floor last Saturday, bursting into the competition with a high-energy Jive.
The fun-filled routine, which the presenter danced to Do You Love Me, earned him a commendable 22 points from the judges, leaving them eighth on the leaderboard at the end of week one.
Now, he and Katya are busy preparing for their second outing as the first elimination of the series approaches.
Mike will be tackling his first Ballroom routine, dancing the American Smooth to Rhinestone Cowboy in a bid to avoid the dreaded dance off on Sunday night.
