De Gea bought dinner for Man Utd team-mates but Pogba and Maguire skipped outing

Manchester United star David de Gea paid for his team-mates’ dinner at Juan Mata’s restaurant after they beat Rochdale in midweek.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side sneaked through to the last 16 by the skin of their teeth following an uncomfortable night at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Mail, a host of players gathered at Mata’s Tapeo and Wine restaurant in Manchester late on Wednesday night.

De Gea was reportedly happy to pay the bill a few weeks after signing a new contract at the club worth £375,000-a-week.

The players were given Thursday off by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they focused on recovery and preparations for Monday’s clash with Arsenal.

There were a number of notable absentees from the get-together.

Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero and Phil Jones gave the trip a miss.

After the game Solskjaer was keen to ensure his side learn from their mistakes and keep onto leads in the future.

“We go 1-0 up in many games and, today again, we go 1-0 up and you think go on then, get the second, which is the key now,” he said.

“And that’s a learning curve for these boys as well. We need to go for the second.

“At this club, we don’t just sit back and hope that’s enough. If you settle for good enough, that’s not what we want.”

The Norwegian is facing a crisis in attack after Marcus Rashford picked up a groin injury in east London last Sunday.

That means Mason Greenwood is the only fit striker at his disposal and the youngster is set to lead the line against the Gunners on Monday.

“He’s got two great feet, [he took the penalty] with his right,” Solskjaer said after the 17-year-old scored his second goal in two matches.

“It must be a nightmare for defenders having him one-on-one in the box. As you say, he can go both ways, which is, for me, fantastic. You can just see he’s got quality and he’ll get his share of games but he’s young.

“We’ll allow him to grow slowly but surely.”
