Carol Vorderman: 'I've still got it' Countdown star shocks herself as she reprises career

Carol Vorderman, 58, was the maths whizz on Countdown from 1982 to 2008, until she quit and was replaced by Rachel Riley.

But 11 years on from leaving the Channel 4 show, the age-defying beauty revealed she re-visited her former role at an event where she joined in and played the number’s round.

Carol admitted she was shocked at her own talent, as she revealed she managed to answer the maths question in just three seconds.

The star shared the story on BBC Radio Wales, and admitted she was surprised at herself, exclaiming she’s “still got it”.

“I was doing something in Ipswich of all places,” she began.

“I ended up in this blow-up tent with a lot of people in it and they said, ‘Carol, we’re talking about artificial intelligence, can you do a Countdown numbers game?’ after talking about things we’ve been involved in over the years.”

“I said, ‘I haven’t done one for 10 years, literally haven’t done a numbers game’,” she said.

But Carol revealed she pulled the cat out of the bag and managed to work it out ridiculously quick.

“O…M…G they gave me the numbers and I did it in three seconds!” she proudly said.

“I was elated,” Carol exclaimed.

Surprised at her own talent, Carol added: “Girl’s still got it!”

Meanwhile, Carol ruled herself out of Dancing on Ice yesterday, as she addressed rumours she was competing.

The maths whizz said she definitely wouldn’t be taking part anytime soon as she broke her wrist the last time she went ice skating.

She tweeted: “Oh and I just read that I might be a contestant in @itvdancingonice… lol…

“I broke my wrist last time I went ice skating and had to do “one armed Countdown” with my left arm in plaster for two months!!!

“So that would be a NO….xxx.”

The Dancing on Ice line-up is slowly coming together with many celebrities now confirmed to have signed up.

Coronation Street star, Lisa George, is the sixth celebrity announced by the show to be taking part in the skating competition, which begins in January.

Lisa joins Maura Higgins, Michael Barrymore, Kevin Kilbane, Lucrezia Millarini and Steps’ H.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are presenting the show once again but there is one change with John Barrowman replacing Jason Gardiner as a judge, after he quit the series.
