Virgin Media and BT face new competition as Amazon reveals UK broadband boost

If your home is suffering from a dire broadband connection then Amazon is about to try an help speed things up.

The online retailer has just announced that its award-winning eero Wi-Fi booster is coming to the UK.

This device is aimed at improving the overall coverage around your house with the mesh system meaning more rooms stay better connected.

“Our mission at eero is to make the technology in homes just work. We share that commitment with Amazon and are thrilled to be an official part of the Amazon family,” said Nick Weaver, Co-Founder and CEO of eero.

“With the all-new eero and expansion to Europe, we are advancing that mission so even more customers can experience the magic of simple, reliable WiFi at home.”

Along with improved internet, eero also includes all the usual safety features such as the option to pause the web on certain devices to stop kids spending too long staring at their screens.

Security is also an important feature of eero with it constantly looking for cyber threats and automatically pushing updates to keep the network, devices, and home safe.

If a vulnerability is discovered, eero is able to quickly and automatically update all online systems. eero says that it also collaborates with leading security firms whose experts conduct end to end tests to ensure there are no vulnerabilities and check for constant online threats.

eero will become available in the United Kingdom in early November with it costing £99 for a single unit or £249 for a three-pack.

It’s worth remembering that whilst this eero device will spread the internet across your home you’ll still need a supplier to beam broadband to your home with the eero then plugging straight into the supplied router.

This new product from Amazon comes as many of the UK’s broadband firms continue to try and improve their offerings.

Virgin Media recently pushed out its new Intelligent WiFi service which is aimed at improving access to the internet and BT now has its complete Wi-Fi option which should mean customers don’t face annoying black spots.

Sky is also offering customers its new service which promises improved web in homes.

In fact, Sky says those signing up to its Boost package are now guaranteed a strong, uninterrupted WiFi signal in every room.

If things aren’t working as well as expected Sky then aims to do everything it can to optimise the signal or a refund will be applied to the users’ bill.
