Galaxy S11 could be the first Samsung phone to match the P30 Pro's best feature

Galaxy S11 isn’t expected to be revealed by Samsung until early next year, but that hasn’t stopped rumours from circulating about the device already.

The latest of these rumours claims the phone will boast a quartet of sensors on its rear, one of which will boast a five-times optical zoom.

If true, this would finally bring Samsung up to speed with the P30 Pro which already boasts such a level of optical zoom.

According to the report from South Korean outlet The Elec, Samsung will leverage a similar technology to Huawei — harnessing a periscope-style structure to deliver improved telephoto functionality.

Earlier this year ETNews claimed Samsung had begun to mass-produce what it dubbed an “ultra-slim optical five-times zoom camera module”. It’s possible this hardware will make its debut in the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11 Plus next year.

In addition to its telephoto module, The Elec has suggested the S11 could be in for a major improvement with regard to its primary camera, too.

The publication stated the South Korean device will boast a whopping 108-megapixel main shooter which, if true, would mark a sizeable quality boost over the 12-megapixel sensor offered on the S10.

Once again, Samsung produces this particular sensor itself. In fact, Chinese vendor Xiaomi teased back in August one of its forthcoming smartphones would use Samsung’s pixel-packed module, too.

Finally, The Elec declared the S11 will also boast a time-of-flight (ToF) camera on its rear that, just like the one already available on the Galaxy S10 5G, will help provide the device with greater depth information for AR features and Live Focus photos and videos.

Express.co.uk also wouldn’t be surprised to see Samsung’s next flagship come with an improved ultra wide-angle lens, too.

Although Samsung fans are advised to take the latest rumour with a huge pinch of salt – primarily because the S11 is not expected to debut until next February – these aren’t the first murmurings we’ve heard of camera upgrades for Samsung’s new flagship.

In fact, renowned leaker Ice Universe has similarly insisted huge improvements are coming to the S11’s photography array. However, he has not discussed specifications in detail.

Still, if the S11 does tote an improved main camera sensor and telephoto lens, it would certainly make the phone’s photography offering much more diverse.

We particularly adore the Huawei P30 Pro’s five-times optical zoom at Express.co.uk, so much so that we put together an entire article discussing why it represents a huge advancement for mobile photography.

With the S11 still presumed to be months away from an official reveal, you can expect many more rumours about the device to surface.

Of course, Express.co.uk will be on-hand to bring you all the latest news about Samsung’s next flagship smartphone.
