Big Bang Theory: Did Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki used to date? When were they dating?

During the early days of The Big Bang Theory on CBS, fans were left in hysterics as unlucky-in-love Leonard (played by Johnny Galecki) tried to woo neighbour Penny (Kaley Cuoco). After numerous failed attempts, the pair eventually realised they were meant for each other and became one of the show’s, if not TV as a whole’s, best-loved couples. While Leonard may have struck out on-screen in the early days, actor Galecki had no such problems.

Cuoco and Galecki began dating in 2007, the same year CBS aired the pilot for Big Bang.

Their chemistry on-screen was undeniable and a was a feature which carried on for all 12 seasons.

However, in late 2009 the pair split after two years just as season three had begun and Leonard and Penny’s love story finally heated up.

Following their break-up, Cuoco revealed it wasn’t “weird, which was weird,”

Speaking to Haute Living, the 33-year-old said: “We weren’t weird, which is what was weird; it was a mutual breakup, and you can rarely say that.”

Years before the show was even thought of, Galecki dated co-star Sara Gilbert, who plays Leslie Winkle.

The pair met on the set of Roseanne in the early ‘90s before splitting.

Their break-up came when Gilbert decided to come out as gay, a decision she says Galecki wholeheartedly supported her through.

Speaking on daytime talk show The Talk she revealed about how Galecki kept her “secret” on the set of Roseanne for years.

She also mentioned how he offered to “hold her hand” when she revealed the news in public for the first time.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on Netflix now.
