Uncut Gems trailer: How to watch trailer for Adam Sandler Oscar-tipped movie

Uncut Gems is the latest film from Adam Sandler – but it’s a far cry from his usual fare. The film is clearly edgier, more thrilling and crime-filled than his usual comedy movies. And watching the new trailer, which also features megastar Idina Menzel, could not be easier.

Uncut Gems has released its new trailer, and fans and critics alike are expecting Adam Sandler to bag major awards for his role.

The trailer opens to Adam Sandler’s character, Howard – a jewellery dealer to the rich and famous.

Quickly, he talks about making crazy risks and gambles, which he says are about to pay off – but some of his handlers seem furious with his decisions.

“You’re taking my money, all over town, placing bets,” his boss is heard shouting at him, as soon things start to spiral for Howard.

Soon Howard must find a way to pay his debts when his merchandise is taken from one of his top sellers.

All of a sudden, people are asking him where their money is, before Howard is beaten in the middle of a city centre.

He is also seen negotiating with his wife, played by Idina Menzel, after allowing temptation to take over as he enjoys another woman’s company.

He is even seen pushing The Weeknd in a club, after completing dodgy deals with a young woman and being screamed at, beaten and threatened by a gang of frightening men.

All he wants to do, it seems, is protect his family, but his evident addiction to the high-octane lifestyle he has been living looks like it could lead to potentially tragic results.

What do critics think of Uncut Gems?

Uncut Gems, starring Lakeith Stanfield, Judd Hirsch, Eric Bogosian along with Menzel and Sandler, has been a massive hit, which could partly relate to the talent of its makers, the Safdie Brothers, along with its executive producer Martin Scorsese adding his viewpoint.

Little White Lies’ Hannah Woodhead said: “It’s a bruising, desperate anxiety attack of a film that rips the rug out from under you when you least expect it.

“And, because it really cannot be said enough: Adam Sandler is on the form of his life.”

The Guardian’s Benjamin Lee also felt his possibly negative view of Sandler, based on his comedy roles, faded as the film started, leading him to give a four star review.

Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy said: “Uncut Gems emerges as real gem itself, a sparkling comedy-drama about a compulsive gambler and risk-taker who never knows when to quit.”

Slant Magazine’s Jake Cole said: “In the film, a man’s individual tragedy illuminates the emptiness of the systems that define him.”

While Variety’s Peter Debruge added: “Uncut Gems feels like being locked inside the pinwheeling brain of a lunatic for more than two hours – and guess what: It’s a gas!”

The makers of the film, Benny and Josh Safdie, are known for the 2017 film Good Time, featuring Robert Pattinson in a career-defining role.

The pair are reported to be directing the upcoming 48 Hrs remake, although little has been revealed about who else will be involved.

Needless to say, that will likely have a very different tone to Sandler’s latest thriller.

Uncut Gems is expected to be released on December 13
