Stacey Dooley: Craig Revel Horwood brands star 'too sensitive' amid ‘World War Three'

Craig Revel Horwood came under fire after making a comment about Strictly Come Dancing 2018 winner, Stacey Dooley and her professional partner and now boyfriend, Kevin Clifton.

The 54-year-old judge apologised after suggesting celebrities on the show should “sleep with their partners” if they want to win.

“Stacey was dragged up from the dance gutter… of course, if you sleep with your dance partner that helps,” he reportedly said during the live recording of the launch show.

Before stating: “I recognise that what I said was hurtful, cruel and incredibly disrespectful. It was a huge error of judgment that I very much regret.”

However, Craig has now spoken out about his apology and said it was very ‘grovel-ly”.

Speaking to New Magazine, the judge said: “Did I [say sorry] or was that the BBC?

“Oh yes I did. It was very grovel-ly. It doesn’t even sound like me. You’d think I’d done something really out of order.”

Craig said his comment sparked “World War Three” as he claimed Stacey was “sensitive” to what he said.

“A jokey remark was treated like it was the start of World War Three,” he continued.

“I guess if some people are quite sensitive then they need the apology. So I just apologised it’s quite simple.”

It comes after Craig explained how he would never “tone” himself down, amid his acid-tongued comments following performances on the BBC One competition.

The choreographer explained to The Sun: “Every year I get told to tone it down and I don’t listen.

“Of course I won’t be toning it down this year.”

Craig said he’s “not changing for anyone” and added he’s going to continue being himself.

The dancer spilled: “If that’s the case I’d rather not judge it. It will never work darling, I’ve got too much of a big mouth.”

Meanwhile, following last weekend’s first live show of the series, one new celebrity has become the firm favourite to win.

Kelvin Fletcher, who wowed viewers with his sizzling Samba with dance partner Oti Mabuse on Saturday, is leading away in terms of bets.

OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “A brilliant opening to Strictly Come Dancing 2019, but there was only one name on everyone’s lips after the show and that was Kelvin Fletcher. He looks the part but produced a brilliant display, and the fact he is paired with the popular Oti Mabuse will only help too – have we seen the potential winner? Bookmakers and the public certainly think so.

“And in terms of who will be dancing their last dance this weekend? Well James Cracknell is going to have pull of something special to survive.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 6.40pm.
