WWE Champion Kofi Kingston opened up on AEW and reveals why he won’t be watching

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston explained he won’t be watching AEW because he doesn’t have time with his demanding schedule in Vince McMahon’s company.

Kingston holds the wrestling giants’ most esteemed championship belt and represents the company all around the world so he doesn’t have a lot of free time for himself.

That is the reason why The Dreadlocked Dynamo claims he can’t keep up with any other rival promotions like the newly-formed AEW which many see as a strong rival to WWE’s dominance.

Tony Khan’s promotion has turned a lot of heads in recent months since its inception and has seen some of the biggest international superstars joining up like Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes as well as Matt and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks, all of whom are Executive Vice Presidents.

However, Kingston hinted that he doesn’t really see them as fierce rivals just yet, although he welcomes the competition, and insisted he will only focus on his duties as WWE Champion.

The 38-year-old told Sports Illustrated when asked if AEW are on WWE’s radar: “Not for me.

“I think it’s great to have competition, I think it’s awesome, especially Cody, I know him very well.

“He’s out there doing something really special and giving an opportunity to a lot of other people.

“Kudos to that, but for me, I’m so busy trying to do so much significant stuff trying to be the best WWE Champion that I don’t really have time to watch a whole other wrestling.

“But I’m all for competition.

“It brings out the best in everybody, I think it’s good for everybody.”

Kingston won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 where he defeated Daniel Bryan to complete his emotional 11-year odyssey to the top.

The New Day member has been on a roll ever since April as he has retained the belt against the likes of Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and Randy Orton.

However, the former Intercontinental Champion is now set for his biggest challenge yet as he will put the belt on the line against UFC legend and seven-time world champion Brock Lesnar during SmackDown’s first ever episode on FOX.

The fight will take place on October 4 in a star-studded show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
