US-Iran crisis rages as Rouhani brands Trump a ’supporter of terrorism’ in bold attack

Tensions between the two countries escalated once again recently following an attack on two Saudi Arabian oil facilities. Although Yemeni Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for the recent attack, the US has labelled the Islamic Republic as the main instigator.

In the wake of that attack, Rouhani hit back at the US while making an appearance at the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking to Fox News, Rouhani said: “Today, America, unfortunately, is the supporter of terrorism in our region. Wherever America has gone, terrorism has expanded in the wake.”

Also speaking at the event, US President Donald Trump spoke of the current relationship with Iran.

In his speech, Trump announced: “All nations have a duty to act.

“No responsible government should subsidise Iran’s bloodlust.

“As long as Iran’s menacing behaviour continues, sanctions will not be lifted, they will be tightened.”

Following the recent attack on Saudi Arabian oil reserves Trump announced that he would send US troops to the region.

Described as a “moderate” force the US has sent personnel as a result of a request from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in order to help improve air and missile defences.

The attacks on the two oil fields is just the latest in a series of events that have threatened to throw the region into conflict.

Both the US and Saudi Arabia had blamed the Islamic Republic for two separate attacks on Saudi-flagged oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

Moreover, a US surveillance drone was also downed after apparently entering Iranian airspace.

As a result of that, Trump initiated the first batch of troop to be sen to the region.

With the increased amount of foreign troops in the region, however, also came a warning from the Islamic Republic.

Rouhani declared that foreign forces had only brought “pain and misery” to the region.

He added: “Your presence has always brought pain and misery for the region.

“The farther you keep yourselves from our region and our nations, the more security there ill be for our region.”

Rouhani has also labelled sanctions imposed on his country as a form of economic terrorism.

He did admit, however, that if those sanctions were lifted then there would be the chance of potential peace talks between the two states.
