Faith in Ole

Ed Woodward has pledged his faith in Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian bids to get the club “back to the top of English football”.

The Red Devils are already 10 points adrift of Liverpool after only six top-flight matches this term, but Woodward set out a long-term vision as he promised to stand by Solskjaer.

“The progress we’ve made on the business side underpins the continued investment in the football side,” Woodward said.

“It’s important that we are patient while Ole and his team build for the future. We will continue to focus on the long-term strategy and won’t be influenced by short-term distractions. We’re optimistic for the future.”

Manchester United double raid

Manchester United have identified two January signings.

That’s according to the Independent, who claim Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Mario Mandzukic and Ousmane Dembele brought to Old Trafford.

Mandzukic, valued at £14million earlier this year, appears surplus to requirements under Maurizio Sarri and although he’s got lucrative offers from Qatar – he prefers the Premier League.

The Independent claim Barcelona would entertain offers for their French international, but would likely ask for upwards of £100million for his signature.

Quiet January for Arsenal

Arsenal are unlikely to be busy in the January transfer window.

That’s according to the club’s managing director Vinai Venkatesham, who said the main work was done over the summer with Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe and David Luiz arriving.

“We were very aggressive in that transfer window, signing a number of new players that we’re very excited about, predominately targeting young players that we believe can grow and develop with us over future years,” Venkatesham told Bloomberg.

“When we look forward to January, we’ll see when January comes. I’d say that we always treat the summer window as being the more strategic window.

“The January window is the one where you need to be a bit more tactical, maybe responding to an injury or another demand. But really our work is done in the summer and we’re really pleased with what we did in the summer.”

Liverpool exit announced

Liverpool teenager Anderson Arroyo has joined FK Mlada Boleslav.

The 19-year-old joins the Czech side for the remainder of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Arroyo joined Liverpool from Colombian side Fortaleza C.E.I.F. in February 2018 before being loaned out to Real Mallorca and Gent.

Arroyo, a defender, started all five matches for Colombia during the Under-20 World Cup in Poland and is part of the country’s Under-23s squad aiming to qualify for the Olympics in Tokyo.
