Louise Minchin, 51, presented the news programme with colleague Charlie Stayt, 57, yesterday morning as he stood in for her regular co-host Dan Walker, 42. Before the show began, however, the BBC announcer mistakenly said it would be Naga Munchetty, 44, on the red sofa, not Louise. Despite the live blunder, Louise seemed unfazed when the cameras started rolling, powering through. “Good morning, welcome to BBC Breakfast with Charlie Stayt and Louise Minchin,” she said, making sure to emphasise her name in order to clarify the line-up for viewers.
She later addressed the incident on Twitter, telling her 164,000 followers: “Ooops it’s me on @BBCBreakfast today @nickeardleyBBC not @BBCNaga.
“She can continue sleeping,” Louise joked.
BBC correspondent Nick was quick to apologise for his error, tweeting: “Ahhhh. This is what happens when I don’t have coffee in the morning.
“Sorry @louiseminchin!”
“I know the feeling!” she wrote back.
Fans rushed to the comments section on Twitter to share their reactions to the funny moment, with one saying: “I did a 360 degree double take when I heard Naga’s name.”
“Made me smile @louiseminchin on a Monday morning. Pure professional you didn’t even bat an [eye] lid,” another praised.
“I thought I heard him say Naga… very professional Minch to carry on without correcting,” a third agreed, while a fourth chipped in: “I did chuckle.”
Louise has been on of the main presenters on BBC Breakfast since 2011, having first joined the team back in 2006.
She was paired up with Dan when he replaced Bill Turnbull, 63, in 2016.
Elsewhere, last week, BBC Breakfast’s Louise Minchin set the record straight on an odd underwear query.
“A question I was asked that I couldn’t answer,” the viewer tweeted. “Bras… Ladies. What’s the best solution for Triathlons if you are unable to go without?
“Was asked by a newbie who wasn’t sure what and how. Obviously I had no clue. What suggestions do we have? #UKTriChat.”
It wasn’t long before another social media user replied: “I would love to know the answer to this! Why don’t tri suits have a supportive lining in them?”
Keen triathlete Louise then chimed in: “Some do,” drawing on her triathlon knowledge and experience.
