Emma Weymouth: 'Can't talk about it without crying' Strictly star on 'traumatic' diagnosis

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 contestant Viscountess Emma Weymouth, 33, was diagnosed with hypophysitis while she was pregnant with her first son in 2014.

Hypophysitis, which refers to an inflammation of the pituitary gland, resulted in Emma suffering a bleed in her brain.

After an emergency C-section, Emma was also told it would be too dangerous for her to have another child.

Reflecting on the traumatic time, the Strictly contestant, who is partnered up with Aljaz Skorjanec, 29, told Grazia Magazine: “It was extraordinarily traumatic. I can’t talk about it without crying.”

Due to the complications in her first pregnancy, Emma Weymouth used a surrogate for her second son, now two, who she shares with her husband Viscount Ceawlin Thynn.

She added: “We were lucky to be able to do that.

“There are so many different ways to make your family. I’m just super-grateful to have my children.”

Last weekend, Emma insisted she spoke out about her health to encourage more people to “open up”.

She told Daily Mail’s Weekend magazine: “It’s a hard topic to talk about. I’ll cry my make-up off.

“But the more honest you are, the more people open up in return.

“So many people struggle to have children and it’s not unusual to go down a slightly different path if you need to.”

She added: “I am so grateful for my boys. They’re my entire life.”

Elsewhere, Emma is currently competing for the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball trophy.

Last weekend, the duo performed the Cha Cha to Tom Jones’ hit She’s a Lady.

Emma’s efforts earned her 19 out of 40 points by judges Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse.

The fashion model took to her Instagram to speak out about her first live performance after the show.

In view of her 49,000 followers, she wrote: “Thank you for being such a kind teacher! Some lovely comments from the judges and very helpful technique critique.

“Going to work hard this week again. Got lots of room for improvement.”

This week, the dancing pair will perform a Tango to Jonas Brothers’ hit Sucker.

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday on BBC One from 6.40pm.
