Donald Trump mocks climate change activist Greta Thunberg sparking outrage – ‘Coward!’

Greta Thunberg gave a heartfelt speech at the United Nation’s climate action summit in New York, as she criticised world leaders for not doing enough to tackle climate change. US President Donald Trump responded to her speech by publicly mocking the schoolgirl. He shared a video of her on Twitter, and sarcastically wrote: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”

But the video shows the 16-year-old Swedish activist visibly upset as she accused world leaders of “betrayal”.

In her speech Ms Thunberg, who joined a panel to give her view on climate change, told government’s: “You are still not mature enough to tell it like it is. You are failing us.

“But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal.

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.”

She continued: “People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.

“We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth. How dare you.

“For more than 30 years the science has been crystal clear.

“How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you’re doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.

One person wrote: “Just curious…how do you think a grown man, a US president, ‘seems’ when he attacks a little girl?

“Let me tell you: a weak, feckless, pathetic COWARD. A sick twisted sociopath.”

Another said: “Let’s be clear. The President of the United States is ridiculing a 16-year-old child because she is more intellectually evolved and has a greater sense of social responsibility than he does. He is beneath contempt.”

A third wrote: “President of United States attacks 16 year old girl who cares about public policy issue.”

Academic Ragnar Weilandt, a PhD researched at the University of Warwick, also criticised the President’s remarks.

He wrote on Twitter:”Oh look: A 16-year old girl with Asperger speaking in her 2nd language makes more sense and is more eloquent than the President of the United States, who, in turn, reacts like a spoiled 10-year-old. #HowDareYou”
