The Destiny 2 Shadowkeep release date will start the klaxon for a very busy week for Guardians.
Not only will gamers see the launch of a big new expansion on PS4, Xbox One and PC, but it will also come packaged with the PC migration.
Gamers will be switching over from Blizzard servers to Steam and this will be happening as part of the Shadowkeep launch.
As ever, fans will want to keep an eye out for the latest news from Bungie, who have warned of server downtime and maintenance.
Shadowkeep will be launching on Tuesday, October 1 on all platforms. But before that happens, Destiny 2 will be taken offline for maintenance on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
It will be during this maintenance window that PC players who have linked their Steam accounts to their Bungie.net profile will automatically have their Guardians and Silver transferred from Battle.net to Steam.
Here’s more from Bungie, who confirmed earlier this month: “Once maintenance concludes and Shadowkeep has officially launched, PC players who’ve undergone Steam linking will be able to launch Destiny 2 on Steam and immediately access their Guardians and Silver.
“However, migrated PC players should be aware that there will be a delay in the transfer of their Destiny 2: Forsaken licenses from Battle.net to Steam.
“After the launch of Shadowkeep, Forsaken license transfers for Steam-linked PC players will continue in the background until they are complete.
“While that work is underway, PC players can access all Destiny 2 content not reliant on a Forsaken license, as well as new Shadowkeep content if owned on Steam. And of course, all New Light content will be available to all players, for free.”
On top of the launch of Destiny 2 on Steam, cross-saves should also come into effect, as will the F2P experience – Destiny New Light.
For those that don’t know, Cross-Save will enable gamers to choose one Destiny player account that can be accessed from wherever they choose to play.
This will mean unifying your Destiny 2 experience on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Stadia.
So with all that piled up and waiting to happen, we could see some severe disruption when it comes to servers.
And this might come after the maintenance period, and during the time gamers are trying to log back in to check out all the new content.
And let’s not forget about the Shadowkeep expansion coming to the game, with the next Destiny 2 Raid being primed for launch.
On Saturday, October 5, Guardians will venture into the Garden of Salvation, which brings new challenges to the Black Garden.
