Ad Astra box office: How much as Brad Pitt space movie made so far?

Ad Astra, starring Brad Pitt, follows a man forced to confront his past on a mission to save the world. Pitt plays astronaut Roy McBride, who is sent to planets across the solar system to attempt contacting his father, who he long thought was dead. The story has resonated with fans who have flocked to the cinema to see it.

How much has Ad Astra made at the box office?

So far, Ad Astra has made $45.2million (£34.5million) worldwide, having only come out commercially on September 18.

The film has baffled $26million (£20.8million) in countries outside the USA, and $19.2million (£15.4million) in the USA alone.

Sadly, this is not a patch on Pitt’s previous film, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, which has made a whopping $344.5million (£276.9million) worldwide.

However, this comes with Hollywood star power Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie involved, and was released during the summer holidays.

Of course, fans would have more likely flocked the cinema to see this, as it is Quentin Tarantino’s ode to Hollywood, while Ad Astra is a pretty solo affair, with Brad Pitt acting alone most of the time.

However, with Ad Astra having only come out in cinemas a short while ago, it seems likely these sales will pick up over the coming week.

Of course, with Joker and Judy coming out – both of which are Oscar-tipped for their leads Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger – Ad Astra fans better get to the cinema quick before it leaves screening rooms.

What is Ad Astra about?

Ad Astra is a film about fictional astronaut Roy McBride, played by Brad Pitt.

Roy is shocked when he discovers his father, Clifford, a renowned NASA hero, may be alive despite his being lost in action 30 years before.

Clifford was part of a groundbreaking research project, and never returned, leaving Roy with anger and frustration which he is forced to bottle up inside.

Now, he must travel through our solar system to planets lightyears apart to try to send a message to his father – but he goes on an emotional journey as he travels through space.

The film shows the true range of Brad Pitt’s acting abilities as he struggles to keep his anger inside, despite his requirement to remain calm even in the most difficult circumstances in his job.

But as things bubble to the surface, Roy also makes shocking discoveries which reveal things are not quite as they seem with his latest mission.

Ad Astra is a fairly economical two hours and four minutes long, meaning you’ll be home at a reasonable time even if you see it after a dinner out.

And despite the two hour running time, the film zips along in a way which will make audiences feel they have only taken their seat a short while before, thanks to the incredible special effects and brilliant filmmaking.

Ad Astra is certainly shorter than Pitt’s most recent film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which comes in at a staggering two hours and 40 minutes.
